The situation in the West African nation of Mali remains volatile. The north of the country is at war and the south is struggling with refugee flows, rapid population growth, high unemployment, and a lack of infrastructure. 40% of the population is without a job, the same percentage is below the poverty line, and two-thirds of the population is illiterate and does not attend school.
